MHI – Q: Is it too late to change drug plans?

Posted by MedEd at MHI
A: You still have time to make a change to your Part D drug plan. The Open Enrollment Period is October 15 – December 7.

Even if you are well-pleased with your drug plan this year, it is not safe to assume you’ll be just as happy with it next year. You have until this Friday, December 7 to enroll in a new plan. It might make sense to stay with your current plan – in which case you won’t have to do anything. Your current plan will automatically roll over into 2019.

But how will you know whether it makes sense to change plans? Use the Plan Finder tool on www.medicare.gov or ask the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) to do that for you. Locate your state’s SHIP toll-free number at www.shiptacenter.org.

As an alternative, you can ask Medicare do a plan comparison for you by calling 1-800-633-4227. Remember, the only person that has anything to lose by not checking your drug plan is YOU!
