MHI – Q: Are vaccinations covered by Part B or Part D?

Posted by MedEd at MHI

A: Part B covers preventive services so you’d expect it to cover the flu, pneumococcal and hepatitis B shots. And it does.

The shingles shot, however, is covered under Part D. Medicare drug plans are required to cover the shingles shot as well as all other commercially available vaccines that are not covered by Part B. You’ll want to make sure to use a pharmacy in your plan’s network to minimize your cost.
