MHI – Q: What happens if my Medicare Advantage plan doesn’t renew their contract with Medicare?

Posted by MedEd at MHI
A: You still have options if the Medicare Advantage (MA) plan you had last year did not to renew their contract with Medicare. I’m not talking to those of you who already joined a plan during the October 15 – December 7 Medicare Open Enrollment Period. I’m talking people who did not take action and have found themselves without any insurance to go along with their Medicare.

The good news is that you can either join a different MA plan or a Medicare Supplement as long as you take action within the prescribed period of time. And the better news is (1) you still have time if your plan ended on December 31st and (2) there will be no medical underwriting for the supplement or the MA plan.

You have 63 days after your coverage ends to purchase a supplement and until February 28th to change to a different MA plan.
